What gets taken out

Removing the wholesale market from the product, simplifying the home page and carts, and adding the Bolsa as a mascot. A week of deciding what to leave out.

After weeks of adding things, this was a week of deciding what to take away. The first decision was to remove the wholesale market from the product. Its prices are still stored every day, because they remain a good reference for fruit and vegetables, but they no longer appear on any screen: it doesn’t sell online, it has no cart, and showing it as a purchasing option was promising something no one can deliver.

Same with the home page and the carts. The home page stopped over-explaining: it shows how much you save and what the same shopping trip costs, and you can do the subtraction by eye. Carts speak in whole soles — “S/ 791 → S/ 684” — because savings aren’t an accounting exercise, and they propose a recommended plan with the order in which it’s best to start. Deals run from biggest discount to smallest, without decoration. Every thing I removed was one less thing someone had to understand before deciding.

And I added something that doesn’t inform but keeps company: the Bolsa, a canvas market bag with indigo stripes that serves as Nada Menos’s mascot and shows up in six moments of the product, like when the list is empty or when you finish a purchase.

That’s what Nada Menos looks like today, weeks after that first list on a laptop. I’ll keep telling what comes next.
